We are excited to announce the return of our 5th annual Battle for the Bell throwdown! 

The 2016 return of this friendly team competition will be held on Saturday October 15th. Just like the past years everyone will be competing for not only bragging rights but the supreme honor of taking home the highly coveted Golden Kettlebell (Big Bell & Little Bell) for the next year.

Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. with standards for the first workout will being reviewed at 8:45 and the first heat starting promptly at 9:00 a.m.

This event started out as a local throwdown between a few gyms that all had their CrossFit journey begin out of one of CT’s first affiliates, CrossFit Watertown. Like the CrossFit community has grown, so has this event and we're happy to open our doors and welcome ‘local’ affiliates that want participate. We’re all part of the same community and it’s about time we got to know a few more of our neighbors.

We will be returning to a 4 person team format. Teams will be co-ed with 2 men & 2 women making up the 4. The event is limited to 30 teams between the two divisions - Big Bell & Little Bell. Scoring will be setup similar to the system they use for the Games with 1st place earning a potential 100 points, 2nd place earning 94 and so on, 3rd place earning 88 and so on. Scoring will also be updated live throughout the event and will be available to follow and check online as well.

Event registration includes an event shirt for all team members, event description / judging packet, link to event scoreboard as well as a post workout BBQ for all Athletes and Judges.

A GAME OF GYMS: THE WORKOUTS

+ EVENT 1: The red Woman

FOR TIME: 150 Wall Ball

  • Teams must alternate every 15 reps

Team Format: M/F/M/F ... or ... F/M/F/M (alternating genders)

Time: 7:00 Minute Cap

DESCRIPTION
Each team will work through 150 Wall Ball shots for time. Teams must alternate every 15 reps throughout the workout. Two people on each team will be doing a total of 30 reps and the other two people will be doing a total of 45.

SCORE: Workout is worth 2 points and gets entered twice (1A + 1B)

BIG BELL

  • Men = 25lbs to 10' target
  • Women = 16lbs to 9' target

LITTLE BELL

  • Men = 20lbs to 9' target
  • Women = 14lbs to 8' target

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

  • Wall Ball – each team will be allotted 1 wall-ball station with a men’s and women’s medicine ball. Standards will be a full squat (crease of hip below the top of knee) at the bottom and the ball hitting its target line at the top.

+ EVENT 2: KISSED BY FIRE

MAX: SQUAT CLEAN + HANG SQUAT CLEAN

  • Event #2 begins exactly 1 minute after the cap for Event 1 has expired
  • Teams are allowed to load their barbell during the transition. No lifting until the workout has begun.

Team Format: M/M & F/F ... or ... F/F & M/M (men work together & women work together)

Time: 5:00 Minutes per pair with a 30 second transition (10:30 overall)

DESCRIPTION
Immediately after completing Event 1 the teams will move onto their stations for Event 2. Each team will have 1 station with 2 barbells (45/35) and a stack of weights (45/35/25/15/10/5/2.5 – 275 total pounds, 320 with 45# bar, 310 with 35# bar). Teams choose whether the men or the women start the workout, from there the 1st pair will have 5 minutes for each partner to set a max clean complex. Only the working partners are allowed to change weights. Bar is allowed to be loaded during the transition time.

LITTLE BELL

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

  • Squat Clean – bar starts on the ground (clips must be used) and the athlete must clean the to their shoulders, athlete must pass through a full front squat (crease of hip below top of knee) before they finish the rep.
  • Hang Squat Clean – after the athlete completes their clean they must drop / lower the bar down to the hang position (hips). In order for the hang squat clean to count the bar must stay above their knees for the pull. They must then clean the bar to their shoulders, passing through a full front squat before they finish the rep.

+ EVENT 3: Oathkeeper

  • 10 Calorie Row

  • 10 Toes to Bar

  • 25 Double Unders

Team Format: M/F & M/F (co-ed pairs, can alternate who starts)

Time: 6:00 Minutes per pair with a 30 second transition (12:30 overall)

DESCRIPTION
This is a 'follow the leader' style AMRAP workout – each team will have 1 station with a rower, pull-up bar (or ab-mat), and area for jumping rope. From there Partner 1 will complete their 10 calorie row and rest while Partner 2 then completes their 10 calorie row. After both Partners have completed their row Partner 1 then does their 10 Toes to Bar (or sit-ups) and rests while Partner 2 does their 10, and so on...

Person getting on the rower is responsible for reseting (Menu Back / Just Row) before starting their row.

One Full round = both partners completeing all the movements

SCORE: Workout is worth 2 points

BIG BELL

  • 10 Toes to Bar = 10 AbMat Sit-ups

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

  • Row (Calories) – each athlete is responsible for making sure their rower is set to calories and that the monitor has been reset before starting their row.
  • Toes to Bar – rep starts with athlete hanging from pull-up bar (arms locked out), athlete must bring their feet up to the pull-up bar making contact with some portion of their shoes. Both feet must make contact with the bar in between the athlete’s hands.
  • Sit-ups – each team is given one abmat, athlete must sit back and touch the ground with both hands (above their shoulders) before sitting up and touching the ground by their feet, athlete must sit-up to 90 degrees.
  • Double Unders – athlete jumps and jump rope passes under feet twice before the athlete lands.
  • Single Unders – athlete jumps and jump rope passes under feet once before the athlete lands.

+ EVENT 4: Sons of the Harpy

As Many rounds as possible

  • 5 Lateral bar Burpees

  • 5 Shoulder to Overhead

  • 10 Barbell Lunges (Front Rack)

Team Format: M/M & F/F ... or ... F/F & M/M (men work together & women work together)

Time: 6:00 Minutes per pair with a 30 second transition (12:30 overall)

DESCRIPTION
Workout is a team AMRAP, the team will choose whether they want the men or women to go first. The 1st pair will work for 6 Minutes completing as many rounds and reps as possible. At the 6 minute mark there will be a 1 minute transition and the remaining pair will complete their AMRAP.

SCORE: Workout is worth 2 points

BIG BELL

  • Men = 145lbs
  • Women = 100lbs

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

  • Lateral Bar Burpee – athlete must be chest to deck with body parallel to their bar at the bottom of the burpee. They then jump over the barbell to finish the rep. Jump must be from both feet at same time, hips do not have to be open during the jump.
  • Shoulder to Overhead – from the front rack position…athlete must get the barbell from their shoulder to an overhead lockout position. Hips, knees, and arms should be fully locked out with the bar overhead. If athlete does a split jerk they must bring their feet back together before lowering the bar.
  • Barbell Lunges – from the front rack position…alternating legs, athlete lunges forward having their back knee make contact with the ground. Athlete stands up bringing feet back in line before alternating legs.

DESCRIPTION
This is a relay style workout. After the team has set their order the 1st Athlete will begin their 9-7-5 of Power Snatches and rope climbs, or pull-ups. After completing all their reps they will tag the next teammate who will then complete 7-5-3 of Power Snatches and rope climbs, or pull-ups. Teams must choose 1 Male and 1 Female to complete the snatching portion. After the 2nd Teammate finishes their snatches they tag the next Teammate who will complete 9-7-5 of Thrusters and rope climbs, or pull-ups. The workout is complete once all 4 members have completed their station.

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

  • Power Snatch – bar starts on the ground, the athlete must pull the bar from the ground to an overhead lockout position in 1 fluid movement. The rep is completed when the athlete is standing with the bar locked out overhead with their hips, knees, and arms locked out.
  • Thruster – bar starts on the ground for the initial rep, after that the athlete must get the bar to their shoulders (front rack position) and pass through a full front squat before standing tall and locking out the bar overhead. The rep is completed when the athlete is standing with the bar locked out overhead with their hips, knees, and arms locked out.
  • Rope Climb – athletes start standing on the ground and must climb the rope (15' ht) hitting the bell at the top. Athletes are allowed to jump up to the rope. A rep is complete once the Athlete has hit the bell.
  • Pull-up – starting from a full hang on the pull-up bar the athelete must pull themselves up getting their chin over the bar at the top. Kipping is permitted and each team will be given one box to help shorter athletes reach the bar.

Event Scoring

Event 1: The RED woman

  • Time Cap changed from 8:00 to 7:00.

Event 2: Kissed By Fire

  • Athletes are allowed to load their barbell during the transition times.

Event 3: oathkeeper

  • Workout will be a 'follow the leader' style AMRAP. Each Pair will still be working together however after Partner 1 completes their 10 Calorie Row, Partner 2 then completes their 10 Cal Row, Partner 1 then does their 10 Toes to Bar (or sit-ups) and then Partner 2 does their 10, and so on...
  • Double Unders are permitted in the Little Bell division...athlete is still responsible for 25 and must let Judge before starting workout. Switching between double & singles is not permitted.
  • Little Bell Single Under requirement changed from 40 to 50.
  • Athlete getting on the rower is responsible for reseting mointor to 0 before starting their 10 calorie row.

Event 4: Sons of the Harpy

  • Bar Facing Burpees have been changed to Lateral Bar Burpees.

Event 5: The Mountain and the Viper
